Wacky Wednesday -- Wacky Prom Pictures

One of the things I love most about Bethany is her fun-loving nature.  Ever since she was a little girl, she's had a playful spirit.  I guess I enjoy that so much because it is such a contrast to my own personality.  I sometimes think I was born a middle-aged woman!

Anyway, this past Saturday night was Bethany's senior prom.  We took tons of pictures ... mostly serious, but lots of fun ones, too.  Her boyfriend is blessed with the same playfulness, so we had a good time with our amateur photo shoot.  So, on this wacky Wednesday, I thought I'd share some of these fun pictures.

First, one serious picture so you can see what they really look like ...

Then we headed to a nearby river, a very popular pre-prom photo spot ...

Four years ago, I could not have imagined that we would ever have another family picture like this one.  We are a blessed family, and God has been faithful to restore our joy.  Oh, how we miss our Hannah when we have family times like this, but we know we have eternity to look forward to.  In the meantime, we'll continue to "hope for what we do not see, eagerly waiting for it with perseverance."  (Romans 8:25)

Wacky Wednesday -- Almost Human!

Before we get to the wackiness that is Wednesday, I just wanted to point out a couple of additions to the blog.  Check out the tabs right above this post.  I've added a page where you can register for any of the While We're Waiting retreats directly from this blog, rather than having to go to the WWW website.  I've also added a page where you can request that a "Hope Package" be sent to any newly-bereaved parent, even yourself, if you unfortunately find yourself in that situation.  I've also added a page with information about the new While We're Waiting support group being formed in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Just click on these tabs for more information.

Wacky Wednesday -- Are You An Introvert?

Introversion has gotten a lot of attention in the blogosphere lately.  There have been lots of books published on the topic recently, and I particularly enjoyed a book titled "Introverts in the Church:  Finding our Place in an Extraverted Culture" by Adam S. McHugh.  One of these days, when I have time again, I'd like to write a post about that book.

Anyway, I've always known I was an introvert, and after reading this list on Thom S. Rainer's blog today, I'm even more convinced of it!  Take a look and see if you qualify.  I think you'll get a chuckle from some of these...

1. You might be an introvert if you enjoyed timeout as a child.
2. You might be an introvert if you shop at 1:00 am in the 24-hour grocery store to avoid seeing people.
3. You might be an introvert if you rearrange the name cards at a dinner table so you don’t have to sit next to people you don’t know.
4. You might be an introvert if you like to have an extroverted friend with you so he can carry on the conversations you want to avoid.
5. You might be an introvert if your favorite game is solitaire.
6. You might be an introvert if your favorite number is one.
7. You might be an introvert if you take plenty of reading material on airplanes to avoid talking to people.
8. You might be an introvert if you smile when you see the “Do Not Talk” sign in the library.
9. You might be an introvert if you try to convince family members that you are really okay staying at home for a week of vacation.
10. You might be an introvert if you avoid buying new clothes so people won’t comment to you about them.
11. You might be an introvert if you can’t understand what’s so bad about solitary confinement.

16. You might be an introvert if your favorite room in the house is the bathroom because you know you can be alone there.

I can relate to every single one of these, with the possible exception of #10.  My introversion definitely does not keep me from buying new clothes!  How about you?  Are you an introvert, too?

Wacky Wednesday -- "No Frills Airline"

I always loved the Carol Burnett show when I was growing up, and Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were my two favorite actors on the show.  I ran across the clip on another blog the other day and thought it was quite relevant today, especially with all the cutbacks going on in the airline industry.  Enjoy!  (Remember, if you receive my blog via email, you will need to click on the title above in order to link to the video.)  

Wacky Wednesday -- "Chick-fil-A"

Today's Wacky Wednesday post will feature a Chick-fil-A video ... What else, on "Chick-fil-A Day"? We'll be picking up our supper from Chick-fil-A on our way to our While We're Waiting board meeting tonight ... assuming we can even get in the parking lot, that is!  Mmmmm....I've been looking forward to that peach shake all day!  :)

I must say I'm a bit astounded by all the controversy ... to my knowledge, all Dan Cathy did was state that his company supported traditional marriage. He did not come out "against" anything! You might want to take a look at Trevin Wax's blog today, in which he makes the point that the Chick-fil-A boycott is really all about Jesus.  He states that the controversy is not really about homophobia, but rather Christophobia.  I think he's right!

Have you noticed that Burger King now has barbecue? And not just any barbecue ... they have Memphis, Texas, and Carolina (though they don't specify if it's North or South Carolina).

Wacky Wednesday -- Father's Day with the Huxtables

Since this past Sunday was Father's Day, I thought I would share this great clip from the classic Cosby Show...



Just in case you were guilty of giving your dad one of these kinds of gifts this year, there's still time to make it up to him.  Head to your local bookstore or Amazon.com and get him a copy of "Fearless"!  That's what my father and my father-in-law got from us this year.  I can guarantee you that book would make even Cliff Huxtable happy on Father's Day!  :)

Wacky Wednesday -- Indonesian Instructions

I haven't had a Wacky Wednesday post for awhile, but when I saw this on my brother's blog, I just had to share it.  My brother and his wife are missionaries in Indonesia, and they celebrated Christmas just like we did this past weekend.  One of the gifts they got for their little girls was this "Funny House".

It was actually a house in two pieces...You had to buy both pieces and then put them together.  But that's not the wacky part.  Here's the part that made me chuckle...the comments on the package.

Hmmmm....Don't you wish you could encourage your exaltation kid's cognitive abilities with a toy like this?  :-)

Wacky Wednesday -- A Wacky Family Road Trip

Yes, I realize that it's not really Wednesday.  Sorry about that, but I just had to share about our wacky family road trip coming up. 

Now, this is not a road trip with my current family, Brad and Bethany.  Oh, no....this is a road trip with my original family...the family I was born into. 

My cousin's daughter is getting married in DeMotte, Indiana, on Saturday, and we will be making a very quick trip from Arkansas to Indiana this weekend.  "We" refers to my parents, my older brother, and myself.  Bethany has to cheer at the football game Friday night, and she and Brad have tickets for the Razorback game on Saturday.  My brother's family is also involved with other activities, so it turns out that just the two of us will be making the trip with my parents.  Now, the four of us have spent lots of time in the car together, just not for the last two or three decades.  When we were kids, growing up in Wisconsin, we made made many a trip to Indiana and Illinois to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

I suppose my brother and I were like most kids riding in the back seat on a road trip to visit Grandma.  Remember, these were the days before flip-down TVs, portable DVD players, Nintendo games, iPods, or even Walkman cassette players.  We basically only had each other to keep ourselves entertained.  We rarely never wore seatbelts, and apparently we had trouble staying on our own side of the seat.  At least I seem to remember my father drawing an imaginary line down the middle of the back seat and threatening us within an inch of our lives if either of us dared cross it.  I can't imagine what we did that annoyed him so.

And for the life of me, when I try to picture in my mind what it's going to be like riding in the car all day with my parents, that's how I still see it.  I see my dad driving and my mom in the passenger seat, and my brother and I, both in our mid-forties now, sitting in the back seat whining about who looked at who.  And then my dad slowing down to a crawl, threatening to make us get out and walk the rest of the way to Indiana. 

That visual picture just tickles me.  I suppose that in reality, my brother and I will do most of the driving, and my parents will be sitting in the back seat or taking turns in the front passenger seat.  However it works out, I'm expecting it to be one wacky, but memorable, road trip.  And maybe my brother and I will even take a turn in the back seat, and play a couple rounds of "Rock Paper Scissors"...just for old times' sake.  As long as he doesn't smack my wrist too hard when I lose.  I don't want to have to walk to Indiana.

Wacky Wednesday -- Earthquake Tweets

My last several posts have been pretty heavy...I think it's time for a "Wacky Wednesday" post.  This afternoon, I ran across a link to some politically-themed tweets about yesterday's earthquake in Virginia.  They made me chuckle, and I think you may enjoy them too, whatever your political persuasion.

These are from the Washington Examiner website... 

@comradescott:  "Evidently the quake occurred on a little-known fault line outside of DC called "Bush's Fault."

@calebhowe:  "Breaking:  Obama administration points out they "inherited" fault lines from previous administrations."

I just had to share this video that Bethany and I saw on America's Funniest Home Videos the other night. As a sweets fanatic myself, this is a child after my own heart!   Hope this video makes you smile, too!

Wacky Wednesday -- Dining Dogs

Sorry for the brief hiatus in posting (so much for my plan for daily posts this summer)!  We had a house full of company over the Fourth of July holiday.  My aunt and uncle from Indiana came for a visit and brought their beautiful boat...

So we've been spending the last several days hanging out with them and my parents, and doing all sorts of fun lake activities like this...

Anyway, things are settling down a little bit again around here...just in time for Wacky Wednesday!
