We've been using a borrowed facility, which has been wonderful, but at most is only available to us twice a year. We've done some events "on the road", which has also been great, but it becomes a bit complicated when trying to find lodging for folks, provide meals, etc.
It's heartbreaking when a parent wants to come to a retreat and is ready now, and we have to tell them we don't have any openings until six months or a year down the road.
For some time now, we've felt God leading us to build a retreat facility of our own so that we can be there when folks are ready for us. He has provided us with some acreage and an older home on the outskirts of Hot Springs that we are going to remodel into the "While We're Waiting Refuge."
And it will be just that ... a refuge where parents who have lost children can come together and share their struggles and their victories in a safe, comfortable setting, surrounded by other moms and dads who understand. Our desire is to make it a warm, welcoming place, specifically designed to meet the needs of bereaved parents.
We've had an architect draw us up some plans ... We are excited to share them with you!
Here's a view of the entire property from above. This is located out in the country, off the main road, surrounded by thoroughbred farms ... a very peaceful setting. You can see the pond in this picture.
And my favorite picture ... the floor plan! And my favorite part of my favorite picture is the ten bedrooms you see across the bottom of the page. Each couple/single who attends will have their own private bedroom with their own private bath. The meeting room you see there will be in what is now the sunken living room of this older home, completely remodeled, of course, and will be such a cozy and comfortable setting for our sharing time.
We have committed to building this facility debt-free, because our desire is to always be able to provide these retreats at no cost to those who wish to attend. Therefore, we are currently seeking individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations, etc., who would like to partner with us in this project.
We have developed a sponsorship agreement, which outlines levels of sponsorship, and the benefits which go along with each level (for example, naming rights to specific rooms, use of the facility, inclusion on our Refuge sign, etc.). If you would like a copy of the sponsorship agreement, please click here to request one, and we'll get it right out to you.
Or, if you have a construction-related company and would like to help with materials, we would love to hear from you, too. Click here and let us know how you might be able to help.
Maybe you are not in a position to help financially or with materials, but you are willing to support this project with prayer ... We would be so grateful for that! We are going to need much prayer as we move forward in this endeavor. Our desire is to always glorify God in all we do, and we will need His wisdom in this project. We would be very appreciative of you partnering with us in this way.
